The Games That Aren’t Played

Happy New Year – 2022 to you all! It’s off to quite the start as the local folks hanging around Heatville are finding out. The HEAT have played the least amount of regular season contests in the KIJHL, 24 to be exact. It’s a 44 game race to the 2nd season, the playoffs and 20 games will have to be done and in the books by mid February. Possible of course but you can probably throw out the current schedule as the jugglers at the League office are going to be throwing a lot of pucks in the air. Towards the end of 2021 the devastation of the provincial flooding saw two games versus Kamloops and Princeton postponed. Prior to News Years Eve two contests versus 100 Mile House were postponed due to severe weather concerns. This past weekend two games versus Revelstoke and Sicamous were postponed due to Omicron concerns. Inspite of everything being thrown at the Heat, players are on the mend and YOUR team will be back in business very soon. Chase isn’t the only team being impacted as postponements are occurring in all four corners and inbetween throughout the league. Stay tuned for schedule updates.
On to some brighter news as Trevor Kennedy is returning to the Heat from Junior A in Saskatchewan. The big strapping power forward’s return is a huge acquisition for the local team and it’s fans. Kennedy got off to a tough start this season as an off season broken ankle put him 8 weeks behind, and by the time he got to the prairie province it was difficult to crack the lineup on a regular basis. A bit of good luck locally and while Kennedy may be a bit disappointed the points that are going to come will certainly cheer him up. We suggest he is worth the price of admission, check it out.
The Summerland Steam will be coming out of the Okanagan to face the Heat this Saturday the 15th at 7:00 pm. The Art Holding Memorial Arena has plenty of space for you and the kids, so plan to attend a contest that features two teams that entered the KIJHL at the same time. If you like steamy hot action on ice, it’s the place to be, toot toot!
