It’s Playoff time in the KIJHL and starting this Friday the 28th there will be 16 teams facing off in 8 Arenas. YOUR HEAT see the puck dropping at the Art Holding Memorial Arena at 7:00 pm. Our Division foes the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS will be riding into Chase for the opening game of a best of 7 series. Game 2 is Saturday night before the series shifts to 100 Mile House for Games 3 and 4, Monday March 2nd and Tuesday the 3rd. In 2 divisional games this past weekend that didn’t dent the standings the HEAT faced the Sicamous EAGLES on Friday Night at AHMA and travelled to Kamloops on Saturday to play the STORM.

Friday night the hosts allowed the EAGLES to score the opening goal. The HEAT then found 6 different ways to put the puck in the opposition net to claim a 6-1 win. Corson Nordick from Danton L’Heureux and Marino Bordin started the scoring. Local kid Gavin Mattey from Breckin Erichuk and Carden Alec then stretched the twine. Cameron McKenzie found the 5 hole for an unassisted and rarely called penalty shot. After 20 minutes 3-1 Chase. In the 2nd Carden Alec scored his 1st goal for the HEAT assisted by Breckin Erichuk. In the final period L’Heureux scored on the man advantage from Brandon Gremaud and Corson Nordick. Leading scorer Erichuk concluded the half dozen counters assisted by jayden Russell and Rhys Lepine. Vince Bennedetto denied 28 of 29 shots in his return in goal.

Saturday night in the “Loops” was what it was a 5-2 loss to our divisional rivals just down the street. The boys were thinking down the road a week instead of concentrating for 60 minutes. Kamloops got the only goal of the 1st period. In the 2nd Evan Hughes tied it up from McKenzie, however the STORM regained a one goal lead. In the 3rd it became a 2 goal lead prior to Russell from Alec and Lepine making it close. The STORM popped in a duo of counters to claim the win.

Friday night Carden Alec received the nod as the Star of the Game, Brandon Gremaud received the honour Saturday. The HEAT finished the season 2nd in the Doug Birks Division, 7th combined in the 20 team KIJHL. Breckin Erichuk led scoring finishing tops on the team and in the Division and 7th overall in the league. 7 HEAT players finished in the top 100 scorers in the KIJHL, Erichuk, Mattey, Nikiforuk, Hughes, Wiebe, Watson and Gremaud. Lots of 7’s, it’s a lucky number and a nice omen for the second season…see you at the rink supporting YOUR TEAM!
