CHASED OUT OF THE DESERT AND PURSUED BY A POSSE

CHASED OUT OF THE DESERT AND PURSUED BY A POSSE

"Past Prez"

The game that includes chase and pursuit saw that happen on the road for the local Chase HEAT this past weekend.

The 52 passenger metal main road monster left town Friday morning for the desert, home of the Osoyoos COYOTES with the shinny masters aboard.  Riding a 7 game win streak Chase was hoping to extend it with a contest versus the Desert Dogs.  A number of factors came into play; not enough desperado to play in the desert, fast versus flat, coyotes howled and heat fizzled out, too little too late, and most certainly it was Friday the 13th!

Facing a very hot goaltender in Curt Doyle the HEAT fired 44 shots, 23 in the 3rdperiod and lost.  In the first Colton Nikiforuk on the man advantage from Cam Watson and Breckin Erichuk opened scoring.  A little over 3 minutes later Osoyoos tied it up, 1-1 after 1. Five goals scored in the 2ndperiod, Erichuk from Nikiforuk and Hayden Wiebe, then a pair from the COYOTES.  Trevor Kennedy scored on the powerplay assisted by Matthew Poole and Brandon Gremaud, however the hosts scored the game winner on the man advantage before 40 minutes were completed.  In spite of a 23 shot bombardment by the HEAT in the 3rd, the HEAT were chased out of Osoyoos by a 4-3 loss.

The next night Saturday, December 14thChase faced the POSSE in Princeton. The HEAT struck twice in the 1stperiod, Gavin Mattey from Luke Recchi and Erichuk before Evan Hughes from Gremaud and Rhys Lepine.  In the 2ndstanza Chase popped in another pair, Nikiforuk from Erichuk and Watson, before Erichuk got his first of the game from Nikiforuk and Lepine.  In the 3rdperiod Erichuk got his 2ndgoal from Jayden Russell and Jacob Biensch.  Led by the 33 stop shutout performance by star Vince Bennedetto, the HEAT won 5-0 to get back to winning ways. Also unfortutunately Benny was the “Grinch” as he foiled “Toque Toss” night.

Erichuk over the two games scored 3 goals and 3 assists, to lead the locals in scoring while sitting 8thoverall in the KIJHL.

Next on the menu are the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS, Tuesday the 17th, a road contest in Sicamous versus the EAGLES on Friday the 20th.  A don’t miss this one, happens Saturday the 21stat the Art Holding Memorial Arena when the HEAT meet the Kelowna CHIEFS. Bring the kids for a big treat and help rock the Chaos Castle in the last contest before a short Christmas Break!

New Year’s Eve at 5:00 pm the HEAT host the Kamloops STORM at AMHA!

Heat Beat: Erichuk, Hughes, Nikiforuk and Mattey are all in the top 25 is scoring league wide, Wiebe sits just outside at 30th.  Bennedetto stats wise is 2nd for goalies in the KIJHL.

The HEAT wish to announce the scouting engagement of Sean Gilbert from Calgary as the organization’s Head Scout.  He is well connected in the greater Calgary area as well as coaching a Midget AA team in Airdrie, which will greatly assist recruiting efforts for the future.

The HEAT remain 4thoverall in the 20 team KIJHL!  We are looking forward with the team’s continued success in finding more fans in the stands cheering on super winter time entertainment!
