CHASING THE HEAT

CHASING THE HEAT

"Past Prez"

Last weekend an anomaly with the local pucksters only playing one game. To make up for that, Lana Adamson and friends held the 1st “Beat the Heat” 5K challenge Sunday the 5th. With bibs on and a variety of footwear including runners, walkers and sneakers (cheaters?) the gathered ran off from Memorial Park alongside two dozen HEAT players. Everyone came back winners, but the best of the best was Desiree Fairbrother female category, Ethan Gremaud male and Xander Denis the quickest player.

The evening before, the 4th of October, the Chase HEAT played a very entertaining game versus the Fernie GHOSTRIDERS. Bus legs were non existant as the visitors roared off to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Coach Brad Fox apparently said very little to his troops and the message was delivered loud and clear. The 2nd period saw a different local squad as they evened the contest at 2-2 after 40. Breckin Erichuk got the ball rolling from Tyson Lampreau and Evan Vinterlik. 11 minutes later on the man advantage hard working Gavin Mattey fired a beauty past the Rider keeper from Matthew Poole and Colton Nikiforuk. In the 3rd Moose Jaw’s Hayden Wiebe from Brandon Gremaud and Luke Recchi put the HEAT in the lead. However, the Ghosts busted loose for an even up tally and after regulation play it was 3-3. So off to sudden death 4 on 4 high speed mayhem with neither team accomplishing the elusive goal. After 60 seconds of catch your breath, guzzle some water and whack your buddy on the shinguards it was time for 3 on 3 sudden death. The fans were on the edge of their seats, you could cut the tension in the chilly arena and then the puck dropped...11 seconds later Erichuk from Cam Watson dipsy doodled and placed the winner in the visitor’s net. Brand spanking new tender Vince Benedetto from Edmonton denied 26 of 29 shots in his flashy debut for the win and the game puck.

The Fernie GHOSTRIDERS received a point from the regulation time tie and then did two big favours for the HEAT. They beat the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS on Saturday and followed that up with a Sunday smackdown of the Storm from Kamloops.

Heat Beat: Aaron Hill was traded to the Osoyoos Coyotes for a player development fee and joins former teammate Owen Lee. The HEAT wish those two classy young fellas all the best with their new team. The HEAT staff continue to tinker in their workshop.

Have you ever wanted to win some money? Not only can you win through the 50/50 at the games but this season we are also running a Progressive 50/50 all season long! All that money will leave such a succulent sound.
This weekend the HEAT are playing in Spokane Washington and against the Beaver Valley NIGHTHAWKS in Montrose BC. You can watch on www.playfullscreen.com. Next home action, Friday night the 18th versus the Kamloops STORM.
