HOT PROSPECTS SHOW SPRING IN THEIR STRIDES
Spring Camp is now in the rearview mirror for your HEAT! 88 hopefuls including 17 veterans were put through their paces in an action packed three day skills assessment March 30th to April 1st. Players were divided into 6 teams which each had 4 games plus positional skill sessions. The camp concluded with a red and white game involving the top 40 prospects. One on one interviews were held with each camp participant. Gatorade and fruit were provided all three days. Overall the camp received praise for being well organized from registration morning one, injury analysis and treatment, well maintained building, great ice, nutrition and any and all questions being answered.
Led by the legendary Brad Fox, his assistants and a crack evaluation team the young prospects were all given a fair opportunity to make the opening day lineup for the 2012-13 KIJHL season. If you didn’t leave it all out on the ice then your trip to Chase was a waste…most participants complied and that made for an interesting watch for the parents and fans in attendance.
Surprise attendees were last years MVP “Johnny” Johnson and top defenceman “Rouge Rocket” Rosko from small town Alberta. They like their peers are working on making the jump to Junior “A”.
The HEAT in an effort to improve from last year will have an “Education Coordinator” ensuring players schooling is upheld. As well we will be holding “Nutrition Workshops” (ok cooking classes so they can microwave something other then popcorn!), and a concussion protocol program will take all the guess work out of when and if a player is able to return to play. Ask the locals what we mean when you are told to do the “switchbacks”.
Heat Jr. Hockey Society AGM is April 24th at 7 pm in the arena mezzanine. To be able to vote you need a 2012 society membership which you can purchase for $5 at HEAT HQ 120 Chase Street. Come out and support your team!
